Boca Grande

June 14, 2009

Boca Grande was the jackpot of all kayak adventures.
We saw all of the animals: several dolphins, two manatees, five iguanas, ospreys and their mates,
egrets, herons (both white and blue) and lots of fish (big and small).

At Mike Wayne's suggestion (thanks Mike) we departed from the north side of the bridge and kayaked around to the mangrove tunnels (very impressive large waterways) and then had lunch in Placida.
Then we rode our bicycles over the bridge to Gasparilla Island and the town of Boca Grande.

Susan, Sue and Erich stop for lunch at the Waterside Grill in Placida.

The first of many ospreys. This one was communicating with his mate.

A magnificant bird.

Just sitting and posing while keeping his eyes on me.

This is his mate. She's smaller and rounder and her feathers are slightly different.

Notice the very sharp beak.

Always keeping a watchful eye.

We saw several dolphins swimming about.

A white heron.

A egret with yellow feat in a red mangrove.

This is the grand dame of all golf carts and driven no less by a kid who stopped with his father to pick up beer.

Return to the great outdoors.
