Bike Florida: The Fun Coast Tour

March 17 - 23, 2007

Miles: 309

Tour Highlights

Our trip actually started two days late, due to a massive noreaster snow/ice storm. But eventually Rita arrived in Orlando, I picked her up and we made it to Deland (the starting point) on Saturday night. The cycling started on Sunday.

This year's Bike Florida began in DeLand. The route traveled approximately 309 miles over seven days through East Central Florida. This year's tour was leisurely-paced and was designed to be a fun relaxing vacation for cyclists of all ages and abilities. We had the opportunity to visit award-winning Florida state parks, historic sites, and world famous attractions. A highlight of the trip included laps around the Daytona International Speedway. We also rode the Atlantic Coast along A1A and roads lines with beautiful oak trees covered with hanging Spanish moss. We rode through scenic Lake Helen and admired all of her quaint Victorian architecture.

Bike Florida: The Fun Coast Tour; had great cycling, fun companionship, wonderful new friends, memorable scenery and great dinners. We saw manatees, alligators, pelicans, azaleas, oak trees, springs, sand hill cranes, cows & horses, birds and cats. We rode over bridges, along the Atlantic coast and passed through villages. I had a great time, celebrated Aunt Rita's birthday and was reminded why I love this sport. It was great traveling and cycling with Aunt Rita, John Bell, Heidi Habhagger, Crystal Allred and meeting the many others this year. It's a wonderful way to get to know a State with great cycling, good food and nice people.
