Myakka State Park

Wilderness Pass

March 15, 2009

All in all we would see a total of approximately 50 alligators.
The water level was very low and there wasn't much water to 'hide' their tire like bodies. The ranger assured us that they were just as afraid of us as we were of them, still we tried to steer clear. We saw all ages from babies all the way to 15 footers.

Closer.

This one is my favorite, but it still gives me the shivers.

Let me rest of heavy head in the water.

Almost full body emersion.

Just floating along, with my stick.

I know, we are a bit crazy, but you have to admit, they're really cool.
This one looks like he just had a meal.

I love the way they always keep an eye on you.

They really look like tires with a bumpy head and beedy eyes.

Two for a nice nap on the waters edge.

Interesting composition.

I'm trying to hide. Do you mind?

Very dry, very low. The last time we were here, the tall grass was green.
Myakka is a rain fed river. No rain, very little river.

See other Kayak adventures.
Return to the great outdoors.
